You can experience a spa like in America in Janské Lázně

The theme of this year's Opening of the Spa Season, which will take place in Janské Lázně on Saturday, June 2, is "Spa like in America." It will traditionally start at ten o'clock with the consecration of the healing springs in Prameník on the colonnade by Father Teodor Mateusz Pajak. "In a varied all-day program, we will remind visitors of a lesser-known fact from history that made the spa famous far beyond the borders of our homeland," said the spa director Martin Voženílek. The cultural program will feature many bands on two stages, including the groups MIG 21 and TĚŽKEJ POKONDR, and a novelty this year is the nightly Videomapping about the history of the spa. The rich program is also prepared for children, and seventy stallholders - craftsmen - will present their creative products at the craft market this year.
Why the connection with America?
In the first half of the 20th century, the spa gained world fame for its successful treatment of the effects of polio, especially polio in children, following the example of the American spa Warm Springs. "When Professor Oskar Baudisch from the United States analyzed the local springs in the 30s, he discovered that the mineral water had identical effects to the water in Warm Springs, Georgia, where US President Roosevelt was being treated for polio at the time." Thanks to this identical composition of water, contagious poliomyelitis began to be treated in Czechoslovakia, and Janské Lázně thus became the first spa of its kind in all of Europe," explained Martin Voženílek.
"The association of Polio patients who were infected with poliovirus, i.e. infectious polio, as children will be presented, and were among the first to be treated here in Janské Lázně in the post-war period, where they still go today. At their stand, participants will see period photographs and learn about the danger that this disease posed to the population, as well as about vaccination, thanks to which it was possible to eradicate it in our country," said marketing specialist Zuzana Pichlová.
A rich program is prepared for the whole day on two stages. "The connection with America will be commemorated by the bands Regioband and Crazy dogs + Elvis rock and roll, and the band RA, which plays reggae. On the main stage, visitors can look forward to TĚŽKEJ POKONDR from 1 p.m. and MIG 21 from 3:30 p.m.," said the main organizer of the event, Irena Korytářová. "Members of the Veteran Club Pardubice will bring to Janské Lázně a cross-section of American car brands from the early 20th century to the 60s, such as Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep, and motorcycles from the Harley Davidson and Indian brands."
Fairy tales, workshops, animals and competitions for children
A program for children of various ages is prepared in front of the Vesna Children's Hospital. "Here too you we will remind you of America. Children will enjoy the Indian trail, where they will perform various skills, and the Puppet Ensemble Ahoj z Chrudim has prepared Indian puppet fairy tales. The youngest will be able to try pony riding or archery thanks to Ski School K+K. There will also be a demonstration of R/C Trucks with a small driving school for children, demonstrations of mountain rescue work, or a stand of the Krkonoše National Park with educational competitions, " explained Irena Korytářová. She added that after last year's success at the Altán on the Horní Promenád, there will again be metal pedal cars for children and art workshops at the craft stalls. A road train will run between Vesná and the colonnade.
Of course, there will be a variety of refreshments, which will not only be from Czech cuisine: "The spa stand will prepare traditional homemade Krkonoše specialties, sourdough, cabbage rolls, potato cakes and various types of cakes. We cordially invite you all to the only Czech spa in the Krkonoše Mountains on Saturday, June 2nd," invited by Irena Korytářová. Free shuttle service from Trutnov is provided throughout the day (the boarding station in Trutnov is at the bus station – VÝSTUP). The first bus leaves Trutnov at 9.30 am and the last bus from Janské Lázně to Trutnov leaves after Videomapping at 23.00 pm.
