The number of adult patients treated at the State Medical Spa Janské Lázně in 2017 increased by 26 percent compared to 2016. There were over eight and a half thousand of them. Another more than five thousand self-paying clients used treatment and wellness packages and separate hotel accommodation. The Vesna Children's Medical Spa treats almost 1750 child clients every year.
"Clients who pay for their spa stay themselves most often seek out treatment packages such as the Therapeutic Spa Stay and the Back Pain Program. Thanks to the excellent location of our spa at the foot of Černá hora in the Krkonoše National Park, guests use hotel accommodation all year round. In 2017, we welcomed almost 3,400 hotel guests," explained marketing specialist Zuzana Pichlová, adding that guests particularly appreciate the possibility of daily use of the spa Aquacenter with a swimming pool and whirlpools with warm mineral water from a local natural healing source and the high professional level of the spa masseurs and therapists. "The interest in self-pay stays and the associated hotel accommodation was also contributed to by the reconstruction of the Terra Hotel the year before last and the modernization of Janský Dvůr last year. At the turn of the year, we modernized part of the balneology operation in the Spa House and equipped it with new hydrotherapy baths."
Janské Lázně entered 2018 successfully
"Our company's revenue for 2017 reached 293,6 million crowns, an increase of 11,2% year-on-year," said the spa director Martin Voženílek. The estimated economic result for 2017 will be positive despite the increase in personnel costs, and will be around 200 thousand crowns. Investments in fixed assets reached 29,8 million CZK.
The priority of this year's investment plan is the care of the natural healing resource, further improvement of accommodation services and purchase of modern rehabilitation equipment. "We plan to equip the rehabilitation in the adult treatment center with robotic equipment for hand rehabilitation, which is very useful, for example, for patients after a stroke. We will continue to modernize the equipment of the balneo operations with new bathtubs, develop wellness services in the Aquacentrum, we will begin construction work on the reconstruction of the 6th floor of the Vesna children's treatment center, and we have planned finances in the order of several tens of millions of crowns in the budget for further investments important for maintaining the smooth operation of the spa buildings. Of course, everything will depend on the future management of the spa," said director Martin Voženílek.
Martin Voženílek was appointed director in September 2017 until a new director emerges from a regular selection process. "I personally wish that we could start working on a longer-term concept for the development of the spa. Since taking up the position of director, my intention has been to manage the spa in such a way that its smooth operation is maintained and that we continue to provide clients with services at the level they are used to. In the last five months, we have not only dealt with routine operational matters, but we have also made relatively fundamental decisions for the future development of the spa. These concerned the possible reconstruction of the steam pipeline in Janské Lázně, which is owned by the company, collective bargaining with trade unions, the start of work on stabilising the well with a natural healing source and drawing up a business plan for 2018."
The spa is a leader in the development of professional cooperation
Janské Lázně is also active in developing cooperation at the professional level. Last October, they organized the second annual conference Cerebrocon intended for healthcare professionals such as doctors, health and social workers, nurses, nutritional therapists, healthcare assistants, paramedics, physiotherapists, psychologists and others. Another edition is being prepared for the autumn of this year.
In January 2018, there was already XII. Janská Lázně Symposium, which was initially created with a focus only on the treatment of children. "First we focused on cerebral palsy. Gradually, other years came, and because they were successful, we expanded them to include other topics," recalls the director of medical care and head of the Vesna Janské Lázně Children's Hospital, MUDr. Vasil Janko. He added that the program is traditionally divided into Adult Treatment and Pediatric Days and consists of a neurological and orthopedic part. Every year, the conference is attended by about 200 healthcare professionals from among doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, clinical speech therapists and psychologists, who learn about the latest news from the fields and leave their knowledge and suggestions at the symposium, which are beneficial for the fields discussed.
Czech-Polish microproject ends at the end of March Exchange of experience in rehabilitation in Janske Lazne and Szczawno-Zdrój, for which both spa facilities received financial support from the Microproject Fund in the Euroregion Glacensis within the Interreg VA Czech Republic - Poland Programme. The aim of the project, which began in April 2017, is to exchange experience between rehabilitation workers of the State Medical Spa Janské Lázně and the Polish Spa Szczawno-Jedlina, expand the range of rehabilitation methods, develop care and further cooperation. The target group of the project is rehabilitation workers of partner institutions.
