"I have been paralyzed for seven years as a result of an acute terminal nerve disease - GB syndrome. I encountered acupuncture years ago with MUDr. Václav Vydra, a holistic medicine doctor in Aš. After a few applications, my back pain and urological problems disappeared. I learned in retrospect that he was one of MUDr. Olšák's most important teachers.

But back to my six-week rehabilitation stay in Janské Lázně. I underwent five to six procedures daily according to the rehabilitation plan and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I went to MUDr. Olšák's office in the morning. The meeting was similar to the one I had once had with Dr. Vydra. A short but cordial greeting at the door and then a fixed and searching look at me, unmistakably determining what mood I was in. He immediately identified fatigue and said that it was not an ideal state for treatment. In practice, this meant that I could tolerate a much lower current voltage, resulting in a smaller therapeutic effect. However, the further course of the approximately forty-minute application was fundamentally different from MUDr. Vydra's practice. While MUDr. Vydra's application of the needles was followed by a fifteen-hour rest in bed, MUDr. Olšák's began, to use an expression from the artistic profession, a creative process. It involved exercising my arms and fingers and moving my insteps and toes. These moved for the first time in seven years. The doctor carefully monitored the movement of the awakened muscles and challenged me to consciously control them.

Looking back, I realize the importance and benefit of all those supportive rehabilitation procedures, which were carried out by knowledgeable rehabilitation workers and brilliantly planned.

I return to MUDr. Peter Olšák. Meeting him was unique! When I used the expression - creative approach, I also mean his absolute concentration on the patient, which is unique after all my lifelong hospital experiences and the effect of improvement is undeniable.
