The 10-day celebrations of the 1st World Skiing Championships begin on January 31. Just six months ago, few people knew that international competitions took place in Janské Lázně in February 1925, which were later recognized as the first independent World Skiing Championships. At that time, there were 50 and 18 km races and the jumps were held on the Krakonoš Bridge, which stood directly opposite the Evangelical Church in the city center.
As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations, many cultural and sporting events await you. On Saturday, February 1st, you can come and see the Meeting of Winter Sports Remembrancers, which will be preceded by the opening of an exhibition in the historic Sokolovna building. You can look forward to meeting guests from the Hall of Fame of the Slovak Football Association. In the evening, the premiere of the author's theater Rendezvous 1925 (that's how the races were previously called) will take place. On Sunday, February 2nd, you can visit a discussion about Emerich Rath, organized by the Trutnov-Krkonoše Association of Czech-German Understanding. The invitation was accepted by German historian Thomas Oellermann, the Paloud family and enthusiasts from Broumov.
On Saturday, February 8, the 18 km Historic Race starts directly from the colonnade, which follows the same route as the 1925 race. The race is on historic skis and alpine skis – you can still register. At noon, after the start of the race, a joint trip to Hofmanky (on foot and on skis) will take place, where there will be a large spectator fan zone. There will be a children's ski jump on the colonnade all day, a children's ash tree rental, and a board game – the 18 km Race. The cinema will screen the film Sons of the Mountains and give a lecture by Sonia Boštíková. The musical program will be outdoors on the colonnade during the day and will move to local pubs in the evening.
