Occupational therapy
Although occupational therapy is part of the rehabilitation department, it deserves its own description. "Occupational therapy focuses on supporting the child's proper psychomotor development. The occupational therapist develops fine and gross motor skills, graphomotor skills, movement coordination and balance, visuomotor coordination, but also sensory perception, cognitive and executive functions, and independence in activities of daily living. By recommending appropriate compensatory aids, he helps to improve the child's quality of life," describes occupational therapist Renata Slovíková.
The occupational therapy team is composed of occupational therapists and their assistants who work with child clients with cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, post-traumatic conditions, neurological disorders of the upper limbs, genetic syndromes and other combined disabilities. “Based on the examination, the occupational therapist designs an individual therapeutic plan that reflects the client's health condition.
To achieve the set goals, we use play as the main therapeutic tool for children. We emphasize therapy that is focused on the current and specific needs of the child and family.
"It includes cooperation with experts from our multidisciplinary team," says R. Slovíková, adding that occupational therapy at Vesna is provided both individually and in groups.
At the spa, the occupational therapist uses, among other approaches and concepts, such as Snoezelen, basal stimulation, orofacial stimulation, music therapy, sensory integration elements, PaNat air splints, neurodevelopmental therapy, DIRFloortime, Mirror Therapy and the Gloreha robotic system for hand rehabilitation with children. VR glasses – ocus working with virtual reality are also available to clients. The glasses serve to support attention, activation and stimulation.
