About treatment

In Janské Lázně we successfully treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including conditions after injuries and surgeries, nervous and neuromuscular diseases, paralysis and multiple sclerosis. We also achieve excellent results in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma, or conditions after respiratory surgeries. We also treat metabolic disorders and endocrine glands and conditions after the completion of treatment of various types of oncological diseases.

The natural healing resources of Janské Lázně are thermal mineral water and the local submountain climate, which are used in therapeutic therapy. An important factor in successful treatment is also the surrounding nature of the Krkonoše National Park, which provides our clients with countless opportunities for walks and other activities

The basis of treatment is individual exercises with a physiotherapist according to the doctor's recommendation and the client's current health condition. We use comprehensive certified methods such as reflex locomotion by Prof. Vojta, Kabat's PNF method, Bobath concept, basal subprograms according to Čápová, SM-system by MUDr. Smíšek, exercises in the Redcord suspension system, McKenzie method, analytical stretching and strengthening according to muscle test or spasticity examination, etc. We supplement these methods with specifically focused group exercises and physical therapy, such as electrotherapy including electrostimulation, magnetotherapy and phototherapy (laser, biolamp).

In our spa we offer state-of-the-art instrumental and robotic rehabilitation. The Alter G device is designed for gait training with programmable client relief based on the antigravity effect, where the relieved gait evokes walking on the moon. The LiteGait device enables gait training with adjustable relief of the auxiliary suspension device, where measuring sensors wirelessly transmit data to a tablet for analysis. The Ness L300 Plus system re-educates the lower limb muscles in clients with reduced motor function, e.g. after strokes.

We include in the treatment plan massages and hydrotherapy procedures (baths, swimming and exercises in pools). For these procedures in the balneo operation we use thermal mineral water from the Janský and Černý springs. The composition and temperature of the water have excellent therapeutic effects. This natural healing source is also used in the rehabilitation pool in spa Aquacenter.

Other treatments we use include peat wraps, paraffin, gas injections and kinesiotherapy (application of elastic bands with resin adhesive, which can significantly improve range of motion, reduce pain and swelling). We also emphasize occupational therapy with daily activities training and speech therapy. The spa has a clinical speech therapist, psychologist and social worker. Our clients can benefit from a wide range of treatments prescribed or recommended by the spa doctor, but they can also choose from over-the-counter treatments using natural healing resources or performed by experienced therapists and masseurs.

Accommodations We offer our clients spa facilities that "breathe" the atmosphere of spa peace and comfort. Most spa facilities are in the center of the spa town, but due to their location in the picturesque narrow valley of the Krkonoše Mountains, even the most remote outbuildings are only a few minutes' walk from the spa center. Almost all facilities in our spa are barrier-free and adapted to immobile clients.

In the Spa, clients have access to a health and social worker who will help them solve problems that have arisen in connection with their illness. The Spa also provides spiritual services in a special meditation room, which is freely accessible to clients. Spiritual services are provided according to individual agreements with the clergy of individual churches. More detailed information and contacts will be provided at the reception.

Types of medical care

In our spa, we provide three types of spa care and it depends mainly on your doctor and health insurance company which type you choose. The individual types of care differ in the way they are reimbursed by the health insurance company, the number of procedures and the different regime in the department. Treatment within the Specialized Treatment Institute (OLÚ) is similar to a hospital regime, the spa care regime is generally more relaxed.

The health insurance company covers all costs of medical and nursing care, meals and standard accommodation for the client. The client may pay extra for accommodation above the standard level. If the attending physician indicates transport to the spa, then the health insurance company also covers this transport. If the client is approved by the health insurance company to have an escort, then the health insurance company covers the standard accommodation and meals for this escort. Only an adult person with legal capacity may be an escort and must be available to the client and assist him/her throughout his/her stay.

For the duration of the comprehensive spa care, the client is recognized as temporarily unable to work (i.e. does not have to take vacation).

The health insurance company covers the costs of medical and nursing care for the client. The client pays for meals, accommodation and any accompanying person. According to the applicable legislation, subsidized spa care can only be provided by a registered inpatient healthcare facility and it is not possible to divide it into parts, so it is not possible to stay outside the spa facilities or to come for treatment from home. During subsidized medical care, the client is not recognized as temporarily unable to work (if he is working, he must therefore take, for example, vacation during the stay).

Medical rehabilitation care is recommended by the attending physician to patients in the stage of stabilization of the disease, usually during the client's hospitalization, i.e. by direct transfer from hospital inpatient departments. Alternatively, it is suggested by a general practitioner to patients with chronic musculoskeletal problems or neurological diseases. However, in our facility, clients are preferentially admitted directly from a hospital bed after the acute stage has subsided or after surgery.

The health insurance company covers the standard costs of medical and nursing care, standard accommodation and meals. The client may pay extra for accommodation above the standard level. If the attending physician indicates transport to the spa, then the health insurance company also covers this transport. If the client has been approved by the health insurance company for an escort, then the standard accommodation and meals of the escort are covered by the health insurance company. The escort may only be an adult person with legal capacity and must be available to the client and assist him/her throughout his/her stay.

During the period of medical rehabilitation care, the client is recognized as temporarily unable to work (i.e. does not have to take vacation).

To be admitted for treatment in the OLU, the client must be circulatory and metabolically compensated, must cooperate (adult clients), must be able to withstand intensive rehabilitation treatment, must not have nosocomial infections, and there must be an assumption of improvement in their clinical condition through rehabilitation.

Procedures

The range of procedures provided can be divided into several basic areas.
  • Therapeutic physical education – group or individual therapeutic rehabilitation exercises
  • Physical therapy – uses the effects of physical properties on the human body
  • Balneotherapy – treatment based on the use of thermal water
  • Occupational therapy – training in self-sufficiency and self-care
Here you will find overview of selected procedures.

Individual physiotherapy

For the indicated diagnostic groups, it is the most important part of the treatment plan. It uses all the basic methodologies used in medical rehabilitation - reflex exercises according to Vojta, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation according to Kabat (PNF), exercise methodology according to Mojžíšová, basal postural programs according to Jarmila Čápová, soft techniques according to Lewitt, back school, McKenzie method, Bobath concept, Brunkow method, UGUL - suspension equipment with an individual approach to the client, use of balance surfaces and balls and exercises with elastic pulls.

Therapeutic physical education – group

We select clients with the same or similar diagnosis into groups, thereby achieving an appropriate load and ideal content of the exercise unit. We use, for example, the SM-System MUDr. Smíška, sensorimotor skills, breathing exercises, back school, etc. Group walking We provide training in a better walking stereotype for more mobile clients, the groups are again divided according to individual diagnoses. For mobile clients, it is possible to choose individual procedure variants in the entire treatment plan, for example, individual walking using an electrical stimulator Bioness or WalkAide, walking in a sling in the LiteGait device, individual breathing gymnastics, etc.

Group walk

We provide training in a better walking stereotype for more mobile clients, the groups are again divided according to individual diagnoses. For mobile clients, it is possible to choose individual procedure variants in the entire treatment plan, e.g. individual walking using the Bioness or WalkAide electrical stimulator, walking in a sling in the LiteGait device, individual breathing exercises, etc.

In addition to the basic procedures of therapeutic physical education, the following procedures are also prescribed:

Balneotherapy or hydrotherapy is an important part of medical care, we will discuss it in more detail in this section. Balneotherapy in our spa is based on the use of thermal mineral water. The source is the Janský and Černý spring, which springs directly under the Spa House building. This healing water is used in all pools in the spa area and in all hydrotherapy procedures.

Hydrotherapy procedures include:

  • bubble baths
  • whirlpool baths
  • carbonic baths
  • partial whirlpool bath
  • scotch spritzers
  • subaquatic (underwater) massages
  • group exercise in the pool

Swimming Pool Spa House

The original historic swimming pool is located on the ground floor of the Spa House. Next to the large pool, there is a small pool for water exercises. The water in the small pool is heated due to the presence of immobile clients.

Swimming pool Aquacenter

The Aquacentrum is located behind the Spa House. Our guests have convenient access to the pool by elevator from the connecting corridor between the Spa House and the Terra hotel or directly from Obchodní ulice. The pool has an asymmetrical shape, its water surface is approximately 230 m², depth from 1,2 to 1,5 m. It is supplied with thermal water from the healing springs of Janský and Černý. The pool includes water attractions such as a water curtain, countercurrent, massage and bubble beds and two whirlpools, one of which is located on the outdoor terrace.

This broad-spectrum treatment method makes it an inseparable part of spa treatments. Occupational therapy is a profession that focuses on supporting the health and overall well-being of an individual through employment. It strives to preserve and utilize the abilities of an individual needed to manage ordinary daily, work, hobby and recreational activities in people of any age with various types of disabilities (physical, sensory, psychological, mental or social disabilities). It supports the maximum possible participation of the individual in everyday life, while fully respecting their personality and possibilities.

Individual occupational therapy is performed by a certified occupational therapist and proceeds individually and purposefully according to the client's needs. We focus on training self-care and independent movements during normal daily activities using compensatory aids. Depending on the client's capabilities, targeted training or improvement of gross and fine motor skills of the hands takes place, in the form of artistic and work activities. We use all possible available materials and procedures, adapted to the client's needs.

We also have the latest robotic system at our disposal – Gloreha, which supports the restoration of joint and functional mobility of the hand. We also use interactive rehabilitation devices SUNBALL and HomeBalance.

In group occupational therapy, we use art and work activities. We use all possible available materials and procedures, adapted to the needs of the client.

The special spring stay combines spa wellness and spring activities. It also includes a gondola lift ticket and a ticket to the Treetop Walk.
